Frank S. Powell, MD

Dr. Frank S. Powell is one of the premier general surgeons in all of Atlanta, Georgia and CPM is proud to have him as a part of their experienced team.

Dr. Frank Powell was born and raised in Newnan, Ga. He comes from a long line of physicians and is the 7th generation in his family.

 

 

Dr. Powell attended Hampden Sydney College in Virginia and continued his education at the Medical College of Georgia. After graduating from medical school, he completed his medical residency at MCG in Augusta, Ga. During his residency, he was chosen to study and research septic shock for a year in Bern, Switzerland for the Swiss Red Cross. After his general surgery residency, he completed a thoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. After the conclusion of his fellowship, Dr. Powell returned to Newnan and began practicing with Dr. Jack Powell, Jr. and Dr. Clifford Cranford. He currently continues to serve the Coweta county area where he has practiced for over 20 years.

Dr. Powell specializes in diseases of the breast, specifically breast cancer, and has played an instrumental role in the establishment of the Newnan Breast Center. He has been performing breast surgery for over 20 years. He is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and remains up to date with current treatment options to ensure optimal patient care. Dr. Powell is Board Certified in General Surgery by the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons for General and Thoracic Surgery. His other medical interests include lung, thyroid, gallbladder, and hernia surgery, as well as gastrointestinal endoscopy. 

Dr. Powell, his wife Allyson, and their four children live in Newnan, GA. His favorite activity is watching his daughters participate in their sports matches. He also enjoys hunting and spending time on the lake with his family. Dr. Powell attends the First United Methodist Church in Newnan, Ga.
